Maimonides is officially designated as a Children’s Hospital by the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions—making us the first and only hospital in Brooklyn to receive this prestigious recognition.
Our mission, W.E. C.A.R.E., reflects our unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of children through Well-being, Excellence in family-centered care, Compassionate Advocacy, Research, and Education.
To support this mission, we proudly offer state-of-the-art facilities and a dedicated teaching faculty who are passionate about advancing pediatric care for our community.
The Pediatric Division of Medical Education is committed to recruiting, training, and developing a diverse group of high-quality trainees and faculty who are dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education. Participants will engage in training and teaching experiences that reflect all facets of diversity, including the patient populations served, the pathologies encountered, and the teaching methods employed. They will acquire the skills necessary to provide a medical home for children and families from diverse backgrounds, and will be equipped to recognize and address the social determinants of health affecting underserved and underinsured populations. Graduates of the program will serve as role models for one another and for the children they serve, embodying a lifelong commitment to learning and teaching.

I have had the privilege of serving in program leadership in the Department of Pediatrics for over 18 years—and counting. When I first accepted this calling, I was told that most individuals in this role last about five years. Point noted…but clearly not internalized. Each year is filled with memories that keep me not only energized, but focused on what lies ahead. The graduates of this program remain my inspiration—their accomplishments not only locally, but internationally with the reach of the diversity of our graduates continues to make significant strides for children in vulnerable communities. Proud PD moment!
Being a Program Director and Vice Chair of Education is far more than a job for me—I came to learn that it is truly a calling. What a privilege to serve a community that reflects the vibrant beauty of Brooklyn: its children. As an immigrant whose family built a life in Brooklyn, I am deeply humbled to now serve the children and families of this borough. Each day brings the opportunity to learn, to teach, and to grow alongside an extraordinary group of colleagues passionate about the health outcomes of children. We don’t just work together—we truly inspire one another. Each day we inspire each other to show up as our best selves—everyday—in our clinical areas and in our communities.
Maimonides is a truly special place. I’ll admit—our exterior might not turn heads. But step inside, and you’ll find something exceptional: a community of people committed to making a real difference in the lives of every human we have the privilege to treat.
To all prospective learners, I warmly invite you to come and see what we’re all about. Just a word of caution—once you’re here, the years may fly by, just as they have for me.
