Overview

The Department of Medicine at Maimonides offers a fully accredited residency in Internal Medicine. The program has a total of 107 positions (26 at the PGY-1 level) in a categorical, three-year residency, leading to certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Up to 18 positions are available in a one year Preliminary Internal Medicine program for those pursuing specialty training in other areas. All medicine residents have the opportunity to train for the full three years of the program pending successful performance each year. Three chief residents are appointed annually to support the activities of the training program and to serve as teachers and mentors for all junior and senior residents.

At The Forefront Of Medical Education

Medical education is constantly evolving. At Maimonides, we address these changes and continuously work to maintain the quality educational experience and environment we have always provided.

Curriculum

Our Internal Medicine Residency Program offers an outstanding opportunity to train in a dynamic, tertiary care referral center. Maimonides is the Brooklyn campus for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. This affiliation enriches the training of our residents and help to create an academic milieu superior to other community teaching hospitals. In addition, the exposure to a unique, highly diverse patient population, enables our residents to become expert internal medicine physicians, well-prepared to handle any and all patients upon graduation.

The structure of the program allows residents exposure to other medical specialties such as ophthalmology, gynecology, adolescent medicine, and psychiatry. Additionally, it enables the resident to work with an inter-disciplinary team including social services, case management, home care, and nutritional support staff. This experience provides the resident with an understanding of the full range of care and support services available to patients, preparing the resident for the complexities of health care delivery in today’s world. Maimonides also has a modern simulation lab, which is incorporated into many aspects of the education of our residents.

How To Apply

Applications can be submitted this fall through ERAS at www.aamc.org/eras. Complete details and timelines for individual programs are available on the ERAS website.

Three letters of recommendation are required. We review a dean’s letter, transcript, USMLE/COMLEX scores etc. Both J1 visas and a limited number of H1 visas are accepted. No visa type is guaranteed and a passing step 3 result is required by match day for the possibility of an H1 visa.

We do not have minimum score requirements; however, we do look at number of attempts. We do not require US clinical experience, but it is favorable. We prefer recent graduates, however, we will consider three years from date of graduation with clinical experience. In all, we review the application in its entirety. As all applications are accepted through ERAS, we do not accept paper applications. We do not offer pre-matches.
